LOLCats is an app for the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch that allows you to browse a set of cat pictures captioned with humorous sayings.
LOLCats capitalizes on the incredible success of the "lolspeak" phenomenon. The rules are simple: find a picture of a cat doing something to which you can attach an amusing expression. The worse the grammar, the better, as long as it follows the predefined rules of lolspeak. "Can has," "I are," and "epic fail" are all examples of some of the phrases often employed.
With the LOLCats app, you have a virtual library of these pictures and sayings at your fingertips. You can skim through them at random and even put your preferred LOLCats pictures into a favorites folder. The LOLCats app also has the option for you to connect to Facebook and even see what other users are browsing if you have an internet connection available.
One problem with the LOLCats app is it tends to feel a little messy. Some apps simply display ads at the very bottom of the screen. The LOLCats app actually interrupts your browsing experience to bring you ads or to advise you to upgrade to the premium, paid version of LOLCats to have an ad-free experience. Ads may be a necessary evil to most free apps, but there are better ways to employ them than this. In addition, some of the picture captions are too small to read on your screen, no matter how much you zoom your device in. Pictures tend to repeat after you've spent more than five minutes browsing, as well.
If you can tolerate the ads LOLCats can be an amusing detour from real life for awhile.
